Strathmore adds a failure mode the sheltered communities rarely see: wind-driven snow entering the attic through the eave. On an open lot, a soffit whose ends were never properly closed, or whose panels were cut short and are not bearing in their receivers, will take fine snow straight into the attic during a blow. Homeowners find it in spring as a damp patch with no rain to explain it.
The more common issue is the same one everywhere: intake. On older Strathmore homes, attic insulation topped up over the years has drifted into the eave and packed the soffit vents shut from inside. What moves the number in Strathmore

Sometimes, if the soffit is sound aluminum with adequate vented area. But fascia usually rots because water has been getting behind it for years, and that same water has often been in the soffit cavity. We would rather open it, look, and tell you honestly than cap over a problem.
