Eavestrough in High River

What High River actually needs from a eavestrough job.

High River is more water-conscious than any community we serve, for obvious reasons, and eavestrough is the part of a house that decides where roof water goes. We size from the roof area draining to each outlet rather than matching whatever was installed, and we pay real attention to discharge: extensions carried well clear of the foundation, directed in line with the lot grading, and never onto a neighbouring property.

The rebuild cohort matters here too. A large share of High River’s eavestrough went up between 2013 and 2016, and ten-plus years of chinook cycling is enough to work fasteners loose and open the seams on sectional systems. We form seamless runs on site, so the only joints are at corners and outlets rather than every ten feet.

Winter does the rest. A run that is level or back-pitched holds meltwater, and standing water in a High River January becomes a solid length of ice heavy enough to pull hangers out of the fascia. Correct pitch to the outlets and hidden hangers screwed into sound wood are what prevent that, not thicker aluminum.

Seamless runs rolled on site, no joints along the length to work loose
Discharge placement given real attention, carried well clear of the foundation
Sized from the roof area draining to each outlet, not from what was there before
Correct pitch so meltwater cannot stand and freeze
Fascia condition checked before we hang anything on it

About High River

In June 2013 the Highwood River put almost all of High River under water. Roughly 13,450 residents and 5,308 homes were evacuated, Hampton Hills was deliberately flooded to drain the rest of the town, and Beachwood and Wallaceville were never rebuilt. The town has since spent around $400 million on reconstruction. High River also anchors the southern end of the corridor Environment Canada calls hailstorm alley, which runs from here north through Calgary into central Alberta.

Our Standard

What every High River eavestrough job includes.

Eavestrough is the least glamorous part of an exterior and the part with the most direct line to your foundation. We form seamless 5-inch and 6-inch aluminum on site, so a run has no joints along its length to work loose through a 60-degree annual temperature swing, hang it on hidden hangers screwed into solid fascia, and pitch it so water actually moves instead of standing and freezing.

Seamless, formed on site

Each run is rolled to length at your house, so the only joints are at corners and outlets. Sectional gutter has a seam every ten feet, and every seam is a future leak here.

5-inch and 6-inch K-style

Five-inch handles most homes. Six-inch is the right call for large roof areas, steep pitches that dump water fast, and homes under mature trees.

Correct pitch and sizing

Slope calculated to the outlets so water moves. Standing water is what freezes, and ice is what pulls a run off the fascia.

Hidden hangers into solid wood

Screwed hangers into sound fascia at proper spacing. If the fascia behind is rotten we tell you, because hanging new eavestrough on soft wood is money wasted.

Downspouts and discharge

Sized and placed to move volume, with extensions carrying water well clear of the foundation and away from the neighbouring property.

Gutter guards where they help

Worth it under mature trees and spruce. We will tell you honestly when your lot does not need them rather than adding a line to the quote.

Colour matched

A wide range of pre-finished aluminum colours matched to your fascia, trim and roof so the eaves read as one detail.

Done with the roof where it makes sense

If the roof is being replaced, doing the eavestrough at the same time costs less than a separate mobilisation later.

What moves the number in High River

High River has an unusual split. A large part of the town was rebuilt or substantially repaired after 2013, so the decks under those roofs are young, sound and quick to work on, and quotes come in clean. The older core is the opposite: original board sheathing rather than plywood, mature trees limiting where a trailer can sit, and fascia that has usually reached the end of its life. We quote sheathing and fascia per unit before we open anything so the two situations do not get priced the same way.

Permits & Local Rules

What applies in High River?

The Town of High River treats a like-for-like re-shingle or re-clad as maintenance, so no development permit is required. A permit applies where the work alters the structure, changes roof shape or height, adds floor area, or follows fire or flood damage. Properties inside the post-2013 flood mitigation areas can carry additional requirements, and we confirm the position for your specific address before starting.

FAQ

High River eavestrough questions.

A complete seamless aluminum system on a bungalow, roughly 140 to 180 linear feet, typically runs $1,500 to $2,800. Two-storey homes at 180 to 240 linear feet generally run $2,200 to $4,200. Downspouts are $100 to $250 each installed and gutter guards $6 to $12 per linear foot where a lot warrants them.

Well clear of the foundation, directed in line with the lot grading, and never onto the neighbouring property. Short tidy-looking extensions simply relocate the problem a metre from the wall. In High River in particular it is worth getting right, and it is one of the cheapest parts of the whole system.

Worth a look. Rebuild-era systems are around a decade old now, which is enough chinook cycling to work fasteners loose and open the seams on sectional runs. If the pitch has gone and it is holding water through freeze-up, that is the point where ice starts pulling it off the fascia.

Five-inch handles the runoff from most single-family roofs. Go to six-inch if you have a large roof area draining to few outlets, a steep pitch that moves water fast, valleys dumping onto a short run, or mature trees dropping debris. The material cost difference is small next to overflow at the foundation.

Usually pitch, sizing or outlet placement rather than blockage. A run that is level or back-pitched holds water, a five-inch run fed by two valleys can simply be undersized, and too few downspouts creates a bottleneck. We measure the roof area draining to each outlet rather than matching whatever was there before.

Every winter. Standing water in a back-pitched run becomes a solid length of ice, and ice is heavy enough to pull hangers straight out of fascia and take the board with them. Correct pitch and sound fascia are what prevent it, not thicker aluminum.
